What to Wear for Your Boudoir Session in North Atlanta
Jun 24, 2025 | By: Yata Photography
Planning your boudoir session is such an exciting part of the experience. For many women, it’s not just about stepping in front of the camera—it’s about stepping into a version of themselves that’s bold, soft, powerful, or sensual. What you wear plays a huge role in that.
If you’re getting ready for a boudoir session in North Atlanta, whether you’re near Suwanee, Alpharetta, Milton, or Johns Creek, this guide will help you feel confident and prepared when it comes to your wardrobe.
First, Wear What Makes You Feel Good
The most important thing to remember is this: You don’t have to wear anything you don’t love. Your boudoir session is all about expressing who you are. Some women love lace and lingerie. Others feel best in a cozy sweater and underwear. There is no one-size-fits-all outfit.
This session is about YOU. So instead of asking what you should wear, ask yourself what you want to feel. Do you want to feel:
- Strong?
- Soft?
- Romantic?
- Fierce?
- Playful?
Your wardrobe can help support that vision.
Here Are My Top Recommendations:
1. Lingerie You Love
Classic and timeless. Think matching bra and panty sets, bodysuits, or lace teddies. Opt for colors that complement your skin tone. Black, ivory, blush, and jewel tones photograph beautifully. Avoid pieces that dig into your skin or are uncomfortable—you’ll be wearing them for more than a few minutes.
Pro tip: High-waisted panties are a great option if you want a bit more tummy coverage while still showing off your curves.
2. Bodysuits and Teddies
These are a studio favorite because they hug your body in all the right places and offer a chic, streamlined look. Lace, mesh, and satin fabrics all work beautifully on camera. They’re flattering for all body types and easy to move in during your session.
3. Oversized Sweaters or Robes
If you’re aiming for something more cozy and romantic, an oversized off-the-shoulder sweater paired with simple underwear is effortlessly sexy. Robes are also a gorgeous way to add softness, texture, and a little mystery. Bonus: they’re easy to slip on and off for a variety of looks.
4. Statement Pieces
Think leather jackets, thigh-high stockings, stilettos, cowboy boots, or even your partner’s favorite button-up shirt. These kinds of pieces bring personality and power to your session and are great for creating contrast.
5. Sheer Fabrics or Mesh
If you're feeling bold, sheer pieces can be a stunning way to celebrate your body without revealing everything. Think mesh dresses, transparent robes, or lace bralettes. These pieces create beautiful light-play in your images and add a touch of elegance and intrigue.
6. Nothing at All
Yes, really. Some of the most empowering images are the ones where you show up just as you are. This doesn’t mean full nudity if you’re not comfortable, but implied nude with sheets, draping, or strategic posing can be incredibly artistic and emotional.
What NOT to Wear
Avoid anything that:
- Doesn't fit you well
- Has distracting logos or patterns
- Makes you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable
- Leaves deep marks on your skin before the session (tight socks, bras, or hair ties)
Also, skip neon colors or ultra-shiny fabrics unless you want to do these on a solid color backdrop. These don’t photograph as beautifully as neutrals and rich tones.
Prep Tips for the Day Before
- Lay out your outfits, jewelry, and accessories
- Steam or iron anything that wrinkles
- Try everything on and practice moving in it
- Wear loose-fitting clothes to your session to avoid red marks on your skin

You Don’t Need the Perfect Outfit. You Just Need to Show Up.
Many of my clients worry they won’t have the right look or don’t know what to wear and by the time they leave their session, they realize it was never about the clothes. It was always about the feeling.
