Do You Have to Get Naked for a Boudoir Shoot?

The short answer: absolutely not.

One of the biggest misconceptions about boudoir photography is that it requires nudity or lingerie but that simply isn’t true. Boudoir is about celebrating you, your personality, and your confidence. You can wear whatever makes you feel beautiful, sexy, or empowered.

That might be lingerie, sure but it could also be a cozy sweater, your favorite button-down shirt, a silky robe, or even a leather jacket. I’ve worked with clients who have created gorgeous, sultry photos while fully dressed. It’s not about what you’re wearing—it’s about how you feel in the moment.

Stepping Outside the Box (Just a Little)

While nudity is never required, I do encourage clients to try at least one outfit or pose that’s a little outside their comfort zone. Why? Because you always have the option to keep or discard those images. But sometimes, those are the shots that surprise people the most. They are the ones that make them think, “Wow, I didn’t know I could look like that!”

Honoring Who You Are Right Now

Many of us tell ourselves we’ll do a boudoir session later after we lose weight, after we get a facial, after we “fix” something about our appearance. I want to lovingly challenge that mindset.

From my own personal experience, I wish I had taken more photos of myself when I was younger. At the time, I thought I was “too big” or “not ready.” Now I look back and realize I’ll probably never be that small again and my skin is never going to look like that again and I would love to have those photos to remember that season of my life.

The truth is: you likely look better right now than you give yourself credit for. Boudoir is about honoring this moment, this version of yourself, exactly as you are today.
